Our idea is to develop a ‘Thermoelectric Chiller’ for drinking water. We aim to eliminate the use of refrigerant. The best temperature for drinking water is at room temperature (20°C/68°F) for maximum flavour or chilled (6°C/43°F) for maximum refreshment. This chiller uses six thermoelectric modules (each consuming 3A at 12V) to cool down the water and can cool up to 3 litres of water within 10–15 minutes with a temperature drop of up to 16°C. Our design will have a capacity of 2 litres of primary storage, which will be maintained at a low temperature throughout, and 8 litres of secondary storage. When these storage tanks are filled, a boot-up of 15 minutes is required. After that, chilled water can be taken at a temperature of around 7°C. Water temperature can be controlled according to the requirement. As the required temperature is achieved, all the thermoelectric modules will shut down automatically, and only the fans will keep working to dissipate the heat. The system will consume 41 Watts [stand-by mode], 127 Watts [performance mode], and 275 Watts [turbo mode]. Our design cuts the electricity consumption to less than half if compared to any competition in the market. Only water is used to extract heat, thus making this chiller eco-friendly.
