This proposal presents a waste-derived, reusable adsorbent pad that you can wear on your feet to eliminate the sweaty odour. The proposed odour removal patch includes mainly two layers, namely
the moisture-absorbing layer and the malodor-removing/freshening layer, wherein the moisture-absorbing layer is made of waste-derived cellulose fibres and the malodor-removing/freshening layer is made of carbonised rice husk and citrus (e.g., lemon, orange, etc.) rind. The two layers were adhered together using a glue material. Further, the patch incorporates an adhesive layer that helps it attach to the interior of the user’s shoe. Further, this adsorbent shoe pad consists of carbon-based Quantum Dots (QDs), which have surface functionalities and can kill bacteria and other microorganisms. The adsorbent pad will absorb the moisture, Volatile Organic Components (VOCs), microbes and eliminate skin infections. The use of natural flavonoids will provide a refreshing natural essence to the feet. The proposed work will be developed into a prototype and tested for its adsorption-desorption cycle to ensure the reusability of the pads. This will help contribute to a sustainable economy and become the perfect product for smelly feet.
