Invited Talk on Challenges in Technology Commercialization and Possible Solutions

Chitkara University, in collaboration with the Patent Information Centre & Technology Innovation Support Centre, PSCST, Chandigarh, hosted a workshop titled “Fostering Collaborative Innovation: IP Strategies for Effective Research and Commercialization” on February 1, 2025. The event brought together faculty members and researchers from different departments of the university with an aim to foster collaborative innovation and strengthen research and commercialization under the IPMCC framework.

Dr. Sagar Juneja – Associate Director, Research, CURIN, was among the key speakers at the event, sharing insights on the hurdles faced in technology commercialization, possible solutions, and notable success stories in technology commercialization at Chitkara University. Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Juneja highlighted how, despite strong synergy between industry and academia, bringing technologies to market remains a complex process.

Chitkara University has a DST-funded Technology Enabling Centre (TEC), which plays a crucial role in fostering industry-academia collaboration for technology development and commercialization. Under this initiative, TEC has facilitated over 25 joint technology development projects, enabled the commercialization of 15 technologies, and supported the creation of 14 tech-driven startups. Dr. Juneja elaborated on the strategies adopted at TEC to overcome commercialization challenges, emphasizing the need for continued industry engagement and innovation-driven collaboration.

The event also featured two other invited speakers. Dr. Divya Kaushik, Scientist at PSCST, delivered a session on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), outlining its significance in research and commercialization. Mr. Evenpreet Singh, Project Manager at XLscout, spoke about his company’s product, XLscout, and its role in supporting innovation through advanced technology scouting and patent analytics.

The workshop also included remarks from Dr. S.N. Panda, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research) at Chitkara University, who provided valuable insights into the university’s initiatives in fostering innovation and IP-driven research.
