Hands-on Workshop on Innovative Crafting: Leveraging Laser Cutting and 3D Printing in Art and Design

Chanpreet Singh, Project Manager, CURIN, Chitkara University, Punjab, was invited as a resource person for two-day hands-on workshop titled “Innovative Crafting: Leveraging Laser Cutting and 3D Printing in Art and Design” held on January 21–22, 2025. The workshop was organized by the Department of Communication Design, Chitkara Design School, Chitkara University, Punjab.

The workshop witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 45 students, providing them with a unique platform to explore and experiment with advanced prototyping tools. Through hands-on activities, students learned the fundamental principles and practical applications of laser cutting. They customized their 2D drawings (logos) with the help of RDWorks software and performed cutting and engraving operations on acrylic material.

In addition, students were introduced to the role of 3D printing in art and design, gaining exposure to essential parameters through CURA software to experiment with the strength and aesthetics of printed models. The interactive sessions allowed students to connect theory with practice and explore creative possibilities in digital fabrication.
